Natasha Spencer is a trained forensic scientist specializing in homicide. Think ‘CSI’, only real. Body farms will never be the same again...

malfated.com was the very FIRST website on the internet to provide backgrounds for myspace.com profiles. In 2005, when we first started creating and hosting MySpace backgrounds, we were the ONLY website listed on popular search engine google.com when the phrase “myspace backgrounds” was submitted. Typing the exact same phrase in 2006 brought up over 1,680,000 different web pages!

Karl Steiger first started wearing occasional make-up at the tender age of eight years.

‘Rat Candy’, the first CD by The Malfated, was released on 06.06.06. Says Natasha Spencer, “We were originally due to release it on Halloween 2005, but we weren’t able to do so due to complications with the guy who was recording it with us. We ended up mastering the CD in 2006 and thought the ‘666’ date was too good to pass up.”

For years Karl Steiger had intended on calling the first album by The Malfated ‘In The Zone’. This plan eventually had to be scrapped when a certain Britney Spears used the title for her third album. Karl still believes it would have better suited The Malfated, and occasionally raises a fist in anger.

The ‘Rat Candy’ CD was recorded in Berwick Street, London, England - the same street immortalized on the cover of ‘(What’s The Story) Morning Glory’ by UK guitar legends Oasis. If you squint your eyes hard enough you might even see the place that The Malfated recorded ‘Rat Candy’ at.

The naming of ‘Bel The Expendable Drum Machine’ was inspired by The Sisters Of Mercy, who named their infamous drum machine ‘Doktor Avalanche’. Should they ever fight to the death, our money’s on Bel.

Karl Steiger’s favorite song of all time is ‘I Am The Walrus’ by The Beatles. Says Karl, “I’ve always enjoyed strange, bizarre, dark things, and it fascinates me the way The Beatles went from “I wanna hold your hand” to “man you’ve been a naughty girl you let your knickers down” in the space of three years. ‘I Am The Walrus’ was a mile stone.”

Peter Morris, engineer on The Malfated’s ‘Rat Candy’ album, composed the music for movies such as ‘Long Time Dead’, ‘Floating’, ‘Octane’, and ‘Shooting Fish’. The ‘Rat Candy’ album was recorded using Pete’s studio facilities in Soho, London, England, aptly entitled ‘The Brothel’.

Natasha Spencer is an avid fan of the black metal genre. Ironically, her Christian name actually spells out ‘ah Satan’ in reverse.

‘To The Body Broken’ by The Malfated was written in its entirety by Karl Steiger the night before The Malfated were due to record. Natasha didn’t hear the song until the band were at the studio, setting up to record; she had yet to learn it and The Malfated had never performed it together. In fact, Karl hadn’t even worked out all of the vocal melody. Four hours later, the song had been learnt, performed, recorded and mixed. Aside from mastering, no changes were ever made and what you hear on ‘Rat Candy’ is what was created in those four hours. ‘To The Body Broken’ with its lyrical genius and musical punch, remains one of The Malfated’s most popular songs.

At nursery school (‘kindergarten’ to our American cousins), Natasha Spencer was friends with the children of Madness singer Suggs, Buggles singer Trevor Horn (you know the guy - ‘Video Killed The Radio Star’), and photographer David Bailey. Natasha Spencer no longer has any friends and is very lonely.

The first song written by Karl Steiger, and also the first song recorded for what became The Malfated, was ‘The Forest Is A Dead Man’ in 1998.

Natasha’s cousin wrote and produced Gina G’s Number 1 pop hit, and Eurovision Song Contest entry, “Ooh Aah... Just A Little Bit’. Natasha apologizes.

Original Malfated Paul Tovell left the band in 2004. In 2005, he was invited to perform guitar on what would become Rat Candy, but declined due to work commitments. The album would be solely performed by Karl Steiger and Natasha Spencer.

Stay tuned for more band trivia.
